International Marketing

Why are exports important for soybean farmers?

Nebraska is not only a local producer but a world provider, which means the international marketplace plays an important role in the state’s agricultural marketing efforts. Currently, more than 50 percent of Nebraska’s soybean crop is exported to other countries.

Nationwide, exports continue to help generate demand for soy and account for a substantial share of all soybean production in the U.S. In the 2023/24 marketing year, U.S. soybean exports reached 46.1 million metric tons, valued at $24.2 billion. When including soybean meal and oil, total U.S. soy exports hit 60.8 million metric tons with a total export value of $31.2 billion.

Increases in soybean meal exports helped set a new record for U.S. soy export volume in 2023/24, emphasizing the global reliance on U.S. soybeans and value-added soy products.
